Houston's Cultural Center
Since its formation in 1997, the Houston Museum District
has grown into one of the country’s premier cultural
destinations. The District is overseen by the
Houston Museum District Association, which exists to
facilitate collaboration among its members.
As the name implies, the Museum
District is located in the middle of Houston's cultural
center place. The Museum District, so called because of
its location, is surrounded by a variety of museums and
other cultural and entertainment community venues.
A short, but scenic drive through Houston's Hermann Park
will take you to the heart of the Houston Museum
District and its 16 museums.
The Houston Museum District
has everything to keep the whole family entertained,
including:
-
Houston Museum of Natural Science with permanent and
special exhibits,
-
Children's Museum with special
activities for kids of all ages,
-
Houston's Zoo,
-
Museum of
Contemporary Arts with thousands of unique and famous
paintings and sculptures,
-
the Museum of Science with
overwhelming scientific information.
This desirable community enjoys the
diversification evident in its eclectic blend of fine
restaurants, art galleries, shops and boutiques, private
and public schools, and more. The free METRO bus shuttles will make stops at
or near each of the four METRORail stations in the
Houston Museum District.
